Colic pain remains in the memory of those who suffer for a long time. To avoid repeating that experience, it is sufficient to perform a 24-hour metabolic screening.
The LITHORISK® lithogenic risk profile allows clear and rapid visualization of the results of urinalysis by calculating the lithogenic salt urine saturations, allowing a clear visualization of the precipitation of Calcium Oxalate, Calcium Phosphate, Struvite, Cystine and Uric Acid.
Not all kidney stones are equal, and above all not all patients are equal!!!
WHAT IS LITHORISK®
The pathogenesis of nephrolithiasis, based on the abnormalities of the urinary environment,
makes a metabolic and chemical-physical evaluation essential in the medical management of the
patient. The standard study protocols provide for the dosage of the urinary components involved
and the calculation of the saturation state with respect to the lithogenic salts. The results are generally
based on complex and fragmentary references and can be difficult to interpret, with a negative impact on the effectiveness of therapeutic recommendations.
The LithoRisk program works by analyzing the values measured on 24-hour urine samples to be performed in public or private service laboratories or through a home-based service
lithocenter.it
You must have a doctor's request regarding the following urinary parameters
- Calcium
- Sodium
- Chloride
- Potassium
- Magnesium
- Citrate
- Ammonium
- Phosphate
- Sulfate
- Oxalate
- Uric acid
- Cystine
- pH
- Urea
- Creatinine
The saturation state (ß), i.e. the specific lithogenic risk for each ionic species, calculated using an iterative system, is expressed in a scale in which:
- ß=1 indicates saturation
- ß<1 undersaturation
- ß>1 oversaturation
LithoRisk® provides a complete, unified and easy-to-read report for non-experts, reporting both starting data and saturation ß values, thus expressing the overall risk of kidney stones.
Biochemical determinations must be made on the same collection for 24 hours, using suitable preservatives. If no ammonium and sulphate measurements are available (only these), the software will use values derived from statistical analysis without significantly altering the β calculation. The recommended values are based on a broad consensus of the literature.
The graph identifies the causes of risk and allows the determination in each patient the targets suitable to reduce the propensity to litogenesis.
CREDITS
The program was created by the collaboration between Dr. Martino Marangella, Dr. Michele Petrarulo, Prof. Pier Giuseppe Daniele, Prof. Silvio Sammartano, and Dr. Gabriele Lando. Chemistry and medicine have joined together to achieve a unique product of its kind that can offer a great service in managing patients with kidney stones.
The software was completely rewritten thanks to the expertise of Peter Neuss and redesigned through the contribution of the graphic designer Salvatore Piazzolla.
